Make your car monsoon ready: Protect it from rats

29 Aug 2021

Imagine you want to go on a long drive with your family or group of friends to enjoy the long-awaited rainy season and then you realise that your car is not starting for some reason. You open the bonnet and find out that rats have bitten some of the wires. Obviously, this will spoil your mood and have definitely ruined your car.

This can happen to anybody as the population of rats multiplies during the rainy season. Thanks to precipitation levels being on the rise because rain spurs vegetation, which then provides plenty of food. So, it’s better to be prepared and think of ways to keep them away from your car. But before we get to that, first let’s understand why rats love to chew wires of cars. 1st reason is because rat’s teeth are always growing, thus they have to chew constantly. Because, if they don’t, it can be life-threatening for them. The 2nd reason…when there is no food around, they chew on wires. Your car’s engine bay gives dry and warm place for rats to live and breed which makes your car engine a perfect shelter for them during rainy season.

Rodents can move in quickly

Some people think that a seldom used old car may be taken over by rats, but the truth is these pesky invaders can also get excited about brand new cars. In less than 24 hours they can destroy much of the wiring. Some plastic insulating material now being used in cars seems especially tasty to the tiny invaders. When mice chew the insulation off wires that connect batteries, alternators, or anything electric to anything else, they cause short circuits that result in costly repairs. After the repairs, rats may go back to work and cause the same problem again, unless you take steps to prevent them.

Tips to keep rats out of your car

As I mentioned earlier, a car’s engine area is like a luxury hotel room for rats. Where they love to stay and breed. Here are some tips to help your car not become the shelter for these sneaky creatures.

1. Eliminate food sources

Food droppings in a car attract rodents. It could be a piece of pizza that you ate with your family or friends in your car. Avoid doing that or vacuum your car regularly to remove all food leftovers, especially if you have children.

2. Move your car regularly

A car that stays parked for weeks or months will attract rodents. It is recommended to start the car occasionally and change the parking place. When the car is not in use, rats are likely to get attracted to it.

3. Electronic gadgets

Thankfully, technological progress has led to the development of electronic products that generate ultrasonic waves that keep rodents away. Find the best ultrasonic rat repellent for your car and get it installed immediately. The sounds generated by the device make the car uninhabitable for rodents.

Hope these tips will help you keeps rats away from your car during monsoon!
